Know your therapist

Hello, I am Ruchita Mehta, a Speech Language Pathologist. I graduated from Ali Yavar Jung National Institute for the Hearing Handicapped, Mumbai (A.Y.J.N.H.H). With an undying zeal to learn, I further pursued my post-graduation from Ithaca College, New York, USA. I am registered with the Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI), life member of India Speech and Hearing Association (ISHA), India & Maharashtra Branch – Indian Speech and Hearing Association (MISHA), India and also an international affiliate of American Speech and Hearing Association (ASHA), USA. I also have a professional experience of over three years in California, where I worked extensively in diverse geriatric and pediatric settings.

As a therapist I specialize in treating cognitive - communication deficits, voice disorders, dysphagia, neurological speech plus language disorders. I advocate early intervention in speech and language development in children. I am also certified in Oral Placement Therapy (Level III), USA.

I did my undergraduate clinical practicums at A.Y.J.N.I.H.H Clinic for speech and Language Pathology and Audiology.

I did my undergraduate level externships at Special Center for Autism, Sadhana Secondary School of hearing handicapped, Special Center for Mentally Handicapped, Sion Hospital, KEM Hospital all in Mumbai, Goa Medical Hospital, Kolhapur District Rehabilitation Center and Rajkot District Rehabilitation Center.

In the year 2005-06, I had a very informative and enlightening experience while in my graduate clinical practicums. I got my hands-on experience in diagnosing and treating to pediatric and the geriatric (elderly) population as well. Here, I treated patients experiencing neurological language disorders, voice disorders and a lot more.

Following this I also completed by graduate level externships from Beverly J. Martin Elementary School, Cayuga Medical Center, Cortland Community Care, Cortland Regional Medical Center, all in the city of New York, in the year 2007.

As I embarked on the journey of my work experience, I was blessed with many opportunities. I have worked with the Interface Rehab, Inc, Fall 2007- Spring 2011, USA for three years, adding to my international experience.

On my return to India, I set up a private practice, home based therapy, in the year 2011 in Pune. Along with this, I have also been a consultant at Mpowerminds, Huges Road Mumbai, in the year 2017. Presently, I am on the panel of experts for an online community named Baby Chakra and a consultant at Aditya Birla Integrated School, Mumbai.

I also take pride in stating, that I am an Ex- ASHA Member (American Speech and Hearing Association) between the years 2007-2011.

Why Rise to shine?

"Just like every child has the right to educate, I believe every child should also have an opportunity to rise above others in their own sweet little ways and out shine the rest. Nonetheless, same ideology goes for every adult who have had second birth after trespassing unfortunate events such as Stroke, Traumatic Brain Injury and more. In their case too, they too should have an opportunity to rise above their newly found strength and weakness and outshine the rest. This ideology is more so in-sync with humanitarian ideology, however, I just felt while I am on this journey as a Speech Language Pathologist, I will try my best to bring little sunshine to every life that I touch. Hope this appeals to you and resonates with you as it has with me!"
